Art for immigrant rights ~ a partnership project with Elevate Mason County ~ |
While the virus is raging, many in the local immigrant community did not receive a stimulus check, have lost work and are struggling. Immigrants in Mason County, WA harvest floral greens, oysters and work in mills, schools and clinics and contribute to our local economy and face specific hardship during this time. Elevate Mason County is a grassroots group that partners with immigrant led organizations to supplement and promote an immigrant worker relief fund as a local response. Distribution of aid will supplement support from the school district Student and Family Resource Center and will include outreach to CIELO's Shelton office and the Sound Learning literacy program. Production of cards, postcards and posters with images of our march signs will be used to incentivize giving to raise proceeds for the Immigrant Worker Relief fund. The Art for Immigrants Rights project has also provided support for native filmmaker, Zepher Elise, to document the project through a short film. Look for this film later in the 2020 year.
